Valentines Card Ideas

With January coming to an end, it's time to start thinking about Valentines day - have you made your cards yet?

Over the next couple of weeks, I will be regualarly adding some examples of Valentines Day cards and projects which I have created using my own uniquely designed papers.

I hope you will like them as much as I enjoyed creating them..let's kick off with my first here.

Decoupage Swirl Card
www.CreativeCrafterUK.co.uk

This pretty card would be suitable as a Valentines card, but would work equally well as a 'With Love' or even a birthday card for the one you love!

You Will Need:
Sherbet Love Paper Collection (Details below)
Square White Card Blank
Textured Bright Pink Card
Glue Stick
Sticky Fixer Pads
Large Heart Adhesive Gem Stone - Bright Pink

Instructions:
1. Print out the papers of the Sherbet Love collection onto good quality photo papers. Ensure you have 3 copies of the ‘mixed sheet’ page.

2. Cover the front of a square card in bright pink card. Trim the border strips from the Sherbet Love papers and glue all around the edges of the card.

3. Cut out a medium sized ornate swirl design and cut into quarters. Glue each quarter to the corner of the card.

4. For the decoupage, cut out the large swirl design from the 'mixed sheet'. Layer with sticky foam pads onto the centre of the greeting card.

5. Cut the medium sized swirl design from the next sheet and layer onto the first with more sticky foam pads.

6. Cut the central swirl design from the remaining sheet and layer on the other two with more sticky foam pads. Add a heart gem stone to the centre for added sparkle.

If you make this card, I look forward to seeing your results. Please send me the link where I can see your creation. Thank you.

Get Well Card

It is with sadness that I am need of a Get Well card for one of my Editor friends who is poorly with a bad back. After a major operation which nearly left them paralised, it seems they will be taking it easy for a few months to come and in quite a lot of pain.

So to try and cheer them up I have created this elegant Get Well Soon card, which I hope they will like. I used BasicGrey papers, combined with pretty adhesive gem stones, flowers and BasicGrey lettering.

Cards, QVC and Crafting Deadlines

Another crazy week! I've been inundated with short deadline projects this week and not had the chance to update my blog. There's been a few writing projects that I've needed to concentrate on for a local magazine. My articles have been on various topics within the community and also theatre reviews.

I've had my cards featured on the QVC shopping channel this week with Dawn Bibby, which was lovely to see again. Strangely, the projects always look different in reality to on TV, but I'm pleased with the way they looked. It was a lot of hard work to get done within a day, but the effort was well worth it!

I completed a few more crafting projects for national magazines, which should feature in the coming months, so unfortunately cannot show anything here now. Needless to say, I worked with some great new products for them!

I get the feeling 2009 is going to be an exciting year - bring it on!

'With Love' Card and Layout Sketch

What a busy week it's been! Magazine deadlines fast approaching and projects to be complete ASAP. I can see 'the light at the end of the tunnel' at last. This week some my cards will be featuring on the shopping channel QVC again, which is always good to see. It gives me such a thrill and sense of warming satisfaction when my projects are shown on TV.

I thought with Valentines Day on it's way, perhaps I should start thing about romantic cards here on Creative Crafter UK. So let's kick off with this striking black and white creation. This card features harlequin black and white papers with floral 3D embellishment stickers and paper alphabet stickers, although the format would work with any monochromatic papers and embellishments. I've included a sketch of the layout for you to follow as a guideline when creating your own.

I look forward to seeing your results. Please post a link if you have created a card similar to this.

Make Money Whilst You Search Online

Sorry this is off-topic, but I just found a website where you can earn money for searching online. It seems a great idea and was recommended to me via some forums here. You earn by the number of searches that you do via their website. This equates to about 2p per search, but this soon builds up as you can see by the postings from the forum mentioned above.

Should you decide to sign up to this site (it's free!) please click on the banner below.

Recycling for Craft Storage

Have you ever come across an old pot, jar or container that you were about to throw away and thought you could make it into something else?

I'm doing this regularly, but rarely find the time to do anything with them. So for my first altered art project of the new year, I decided to recycle an old drinking chocolate container (as pictured below). I decorated it with BasicGrey papers, paper flowers and gem stones. "I love this quote from Albert Einstein!" It sure makes a remarkable difference from the original packaging. I even lined the inside with co-ordinating textured cardstock.

It creates a fantastic pencil pot!

Inspired By....

Is there any particular blog or website that you are inspired by?

I really like browsing all the cool handmade products at Folksy or Etsy.com, but one site that really gets my creative (and artistic) juices flowing is here at Print and Pattern check it out for some great graphic design by some very talented designers.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Following the party-ing, the streamers, the drink and the morning hangover (in many cases), it's time to start thinking about New Years resolutions - have you made one this year?

Mine is to stop purchasing craft items and use up some of the crafting products I have stashed away in my craft room. In my profession however, that can be quite difficult as I need to keep using the latest products very often to feature in my articles. I will try my best and clear the clutter this year!

Look forward to hearing all your new year resolutions.
Wishing you all a very happy, healthy and peaceful 2009!
